ALPHA MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH HISTORY

October 1, 1978 –

On October 1, 1978, Reverend William Marvin Rorer was led by the Holy Spirit to start the mission known as Alpha Chapel here in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Through the sponsorship of Berea Baptist Church of Woodridge, services were started in Humphrey Middle School, with five faithful members. There were 22 people in attendance at the first Sunday worship service.

Alpha became a constituted church on Sunday, February 15, 1981 and moved into the building at 513 E. Briarcliff Road on August 14, 1982.  Ministry activities were held there until November 1994 when the building was sold so we could build a new building.  We began renting space at B. J. Ward Middle School, where we held Sunday morning services and some weeknight activities.

On June 18, 1995, we broke ground for the construction of our new earthly home at 240 S. Schmidt Road.  And on Sunday, September 29, 1996, we moved into and began to hold services in our present location.

In February 2012 our Senior Pastor of 33 years, W.M. Rorer, retired from service.  In September of 2013 we elected Reverend Bruce M. Kirk as our Senior Pastor.  We continue to walk the way the Lord is leading.

In its divine purpose to teach others to observe all things the Lord commands, Alpha has Sunday Bible School classes for all ages.  In addition to Sunday School, Orientation courses that teach what church membership is all about are offered to all members.  Both Sunday Bible School and Orientation Courses are held each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.  We also have a Saturday Bible School Class that meets weekly at 5:00 p.m. and an outreach Sunday Bible School Class that meets at a local nursing Home, Meadowbrook Manor, on the 3rd and 5th Sunday of every month. We have Discipleship and Christian Education classes designed to train all members to apply the word of God in their daily lives.  Since 1979, Alpha has conducted Vacation Bible School each summer.

Alpha supports a number of ministries and contributes to missions on all levels: foreign, home, and local.  In local missions, Alpha continues to give food, clothing, and financial assistance to those in need, distributed by our Benevolence Committee. In addition, Alpha provides support to Hesed House, a local homeless shelter.

Alpha is affiliated with the Chicago Metropolitan Baptist Association (CMBA), Illinois Baptist State Association (IBSA) and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).

We continue to praise the Lord for His grace.  It is by Faith that we trust Him to use us to do even greater things in the name of His Precious Son, Jesus.

O praise ye the Lord.  O give thanks unto the Lord;
 for He is good: for His mercy endureth forever. – Psalms 106:1 KJV
